Meet Idaho Senate Education Committee Chairman John Goedde

Background

John Goedde was first elected to the Idaho State Senate in 2000. He represents Idaho’s District 4, Kootenai County, where the largest city is Coeur d’Alene. Goedde is chairman of the Senate’s Education Committee, a panel where many of Idaho’s education policies originate. He’s also a member of the Senate Commerce and Human Resources committee.

Goedde is from Chelan, Wash., and graduated from high school there in 1967. He went on to Washington State University to receive a bachelor’s degree in hotel and restaurant administration in 1972.

Goedde’s professional background includes managing a country club, insurance agent, and he is now president of the Panhandle Insurance Agency.

Goedde’s professional background in the education arena dates back to 1997 when he was elected to the Coeur d’Alene school board. He also serves on North Idaho College’s foundation board, and the University of Idaho’s advisory board. Since 2005, Sen. Goedde has been a commissioner on the Education Commission of the States.

Goedde and his wife Terri live in Coeur d’Alene. He has one son and a stepson.
