While the news from Hewlett-Packard was not unexpected, the vehemence of Meg Whitman’s message drove shareholders to the exits. The company’s stock is down almost 10 percent. It was probably what Ms. Whitman had in mind. Ms. Whitman wanted to get as much bad news out at once, so the company could quickly focus on rebuilding.
