Fewer Farmland Acres Going Into Conservation

Results of the USDA’s recent Conservation Reserve Program general registration confirm predictions by Farm Service Agency officials that acres would be down. In Idaho, where 164,662 acres are expiring, only 125,000 acres were offered. Ron Abbott, farm programs chief with Idaho FSA, said all but 37 of 735 applicants were accepted. Of the acres offered, he said 99,000 acres were from current participants re-enrolling in the program.
