Two Candidates Say They Aren’t Interested In Florida’s Top Education Job

The Tampa Bay Times reports two people who might be on the wish list for Florida’s next education commissioner are not interested. Idaho Superintendent Tom Luna and Rhode Island commissioner Deborah Gist both say they are staying put.


Strike the name of Tom Luna, Idaho’s superintendent of public instruction, from the list of possibilities to replace outgoing Florida education commissioner Gerard Robinson.

Luna, who told the Idaho Statesman that Gov. Rick Scott’s office contacted him a year ago about the vacancy, said he has the same answer this year.

“I love Idaho, and the work we are doing here is the most exciting in the country,” Luna told the paper. “I’m happy where I am, and I’m staying here.”
