Teacher Stipends On the Chopping Block

Teachers in the Florida Keys who coach athletic teams or sponsor clubs usually get extra income for their extra work. But the proposed budget for the Monroe County School District would slash its $1 million “supplemental budget” by more than half.


Following the Hurricanes’ football game Friday night, longtime Coral Shores High School Band Director Robert Sax abruptly put the marching band on hold, saying the program’s season is over. He cited lack of School District support.
