State Board of Education Says Leave Next Education Commissioner Alone

Board of Education members say the next education commissioner needs to act with “minimal interference from political folks.”

The State Board of Education officially kicked off its search for a new education commissioner this morning, approving a contract with a search firm and a description of an ideal candidate.

Applicants to replace Gerard Robinson, who stepped down after a little more than a year on the job, have until Sept. 27 to get their resumes to the search firm, Ray and Associates, Inc. But board members said they would consider extending the deadline, if needed.
