California Election Results Show Democrats Divided Over Education

Reuters has a solid round-up of what Tuesday’s California primary tells us about disagreements between Democrats. One issue is the so-called parent trigger, which allows parents at failing schools to choose how to overhaul that school — including converting it to a charter school. The bill will return to Florida next year and what’s happening in California could be a precursor.


(Reuters) – Democratic candidates backed by teachers unions narrowly lost on Tuesday in two California state assembly primary races that highlighted a bitter split in the Democratic Party over education policy. The most contentious race was in Assembly District 46, a heavily Democratic swath of Los Angeles suburbs.
